Hungry Like a Wolf...

'You've got the wrong person, right? You meant to call Shayne!'... was my first thought when the Bishopric called me to be the new Wolf Den Leader in Cub Scouts last July! I was this close to telling them a very firm, 'Thanks, but no thanks!' when the good ole church calling guilt set in. And at exactly that moment, my beautiful first boy's face popped into my mind. As a new 8-year-old, he was entering the Cub Scout Troop 805. I was prepared to buy him the whole get-up--blue shirt, yellow neckerchief, fancy gold slide, patches (that still haven't been sewn on!) and all the trimmings that went along with it. But me?? Sporting that sunny, yellow den leader shirt? I can still muster up the memory of my mom being Brent's den leader. I thought that shirt was funny then, and now I have to wear it every week? Only one good reason on earth could convince me to say yes--Connor. I could mentor him, I could spend time bonding with him, I could help him pass off important skills, I could protect him from the other mean little boys...oh, okay...I guess I'll do it. And what's the first step for each good boy scout to achieve? His bobcat!
Connor was so thrilled to be awarded his bobcat in January. He loved the face-painting so much, he wanted to wear it to school the next day--I vetoed that one. After all, I am the den leader...

  1. Where are the photography credits for this post? HHmmm, whoever it was did almost as good of a job as she did taking your Christmas card pictures! (Clever title by the way.)
